DMSO ist ein Lösungsmittel für viele organische Stoffe, wie beispielsweise Fette, Farben oder Klebstoffe. Es ist hochdosiert, geruchsarm und bei Raumtemperatur nicht brennbar. In DMSO gelöste Substanzen können die Haut deutlich schneller, tiefer und intensiver durchdringen, daher ist ein vorsichtiger Umgang mit dem Produkt notwendig. Der Phasenübergang von flüssig zu fest (Gefrierpunkt) von DMSO liegt bei 18°C. Daher ist möglich, dass das Produkt in festem Zustand bei ihnen ankommt.
